In recent years, the race to implement good governance practices and social and environmental responsibility has accelerated dramatically. “The offshore energy sector is highly sensitive to environmental issues. Companies are looking for more sustainable and safer solutions for their operations”, says Daniel Kuhl, commercial manager of Wilson Sons Offshore Support Bases.
The announcement of new and significant investments by the main players in the sector indicates that this movement has not stopped and should continue even further. “Brazil has a huge advantage today. It is a key part of the solution for a more sustainable world. We can’t miss this opportunity.” Check out the following interview.
Greener solutions in the sea
Environmental issues have never been so highlighted as they are today. Subject of the main discussions in the offshore market, the topic brings herculean challenges to one of the sectors that most impact the carbon footprint of countries around the world. In line with this scenario, the support bases are presented as facilitators, with green solutions capable of supporting this transition.
Designed to provide logistical, operational and safety support to the activities carried out, especially in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas, the bases have played a fundamental role in supporting offshore operations, offering a series of essential services and resources.
In Brazil, Wilson Sons Offshore Support Bases stand out for their history marked by pioneering spirit. With more than 20 years of experience, they have eight operational berths located in Guanabara Bay (RJ), near the Pre-Salt polygon.
“We are the first private base in the country. Our history of protagonism in the sector allows us to provide what is most innovative and sustainable to our partners.”
This strategic location has earned the company a crucial role in supporting the efficiency and safety of operations, contributing to the success of the offshore energy industry, through a complete portfolio of services. “We offer world-class infrastructure, quality and safety to our partners, to ensure not only the best experience on logistics support base, but also excellence in waste management, a noble line of services we provide.”
For the executive, responsible waste management is a strong ally for meeting the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) expectations of offshore companies, reducing the environmental impact of operations. In fact, this agenda is a differential of Wilson Sons, since the company is a member of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a partnership that globally attests to the engagement in sustainable practices in the proactive management of solutions that contribute to the mitigation of climate change.
Offshore Support Bases: integrated management for sustainability
With the continuous search for innovative solutions in environmental management, the support bases are becoming facilitators of the offshore energy industry. In Brazil, Wilson Sons Offshore Support Bases are at the forefront of this transformation, through the integrated waste management. “We have established a complete infrastructure to manage all stages of the treatment and disposal cycle, ensuring that all agents fulfill their functions. We work in the collection, handling, supply of containers, transportation, certified disposal solutions, in addition to all documentation management up to the preparation of the final reports.”
This is not the unit’s only green solution. “We are an experienced supplier of tank cleaning services, working for the main oil and gas operators in Brazil. We carry out cleaning operations with maximum efficiency, reusing water consumption dynamically and reducing the exposure of work in confined spaces”, adds the executive.
If on the one hand sustainability has stood out, on the other hand, the use of new technologies has gained even more space:
“Our semi-automated tank cleaning operation is widely recognized by our customers for its high standard of safety and agility. Our own cleaning team is highly qualified and our process is fully certified, available 24/7 to our partners.”
However, it is not only sustainability and innovation that have received investment in the unit. Among its 8 berths, distributed in an incredible 135,000 m2 of retro area in two bases, one in Rio de Janeiro and the other in Niterói, which serve all classes of PSV (Platform Supply Vessel), oil platform support vessel, and AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply). “We constantly invest in our infrastructure and security. These are our main guides so that we can ensure that our operations have a positive impact on the entire production chain.” This investment in safety, with rigorous standards, regular training and assertive protocols, is the foundation that supports the success that has been observed by Wilson Sons Offshore Support Bases, contributing to a safer and more responsible energy sector, says the executive.
Going forward, Kuhl assesses that the outlook is positive, with challenges. With the announcement of substantial national and foreign investments for the exploration of offshore energy in the Pre-Salt, with development operations in new wells, the scenario is for the expansion of activities. “Brazil today has a huge advantage because it is a fundamental part of the solution for a more sustainable world. We can’t miss this opportunity.”
